Crewfare aimed to create a robust, scalable, cost-effective system within the AWS cloud environment to optimize operational efficiency and financial expenditure. Despite experiencing relatively low traffic levels at certain times, Crewfare's previous infrastructure, which relied heavily on Amazon EKS and EC2 instances, resulted in unexpectedly high operational costs. The primary focus was to optimize and redesign the existing infrastructure strategically.
The goal was to implement an advanced architecture that capitalized on the benefits of serverless technologies, such as AWS Lambda, and auto-scaling capabilities to dynamically adjust resource allocation based on real-time traffic demands. This was aimed to ensure that the application could seamlessly scale up during high-traffic periods and scale down during low-traffic periods, thereby avoiding unnecessary resource usage and reducing costs.
Furthermore, the redesigned architecture would have incorporated comprehensive AWS cost-management tools, such as AWS Cost Explorer, to monitor continuously, analyze, and optimize cost performance. The solution would also have included robust monitoring and alerting mechanisms to proactively manage resource utilization and performance metrics, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance standards were consistently met.
Also, Crewfare aimed to achieve substantial cost savings while maintaining or enhancing the application's scalability, performance, and overall user experience, aligning with both current operational needs and future growth plans.

Excessive Operational Costs: Crewfare faced significant operational expenses despite utilising AWS services like Amazon EKS for container orchestration and EC2 for scalable computing. While technically sound, the existing architecture needed to be optimised for the low traffic levels experienced, leading to inefficient resource allocation and heightened costs.
Balancing Scalability and Cost: The challenge of achieving dynamic scalability without exorbitant costs was paramount. The existing setup offered scalability but a high price, necessitating a solution that could scale responsively with demand while minimising expenses during low-traffic periods.
