NursePlexus required a highly secure, AI-powered automation engine to eliminate the manual bottlenecks in their clinical review process. As their provider network grew, the platform needed to process complex patient encounter notes with near-instant turnaround times while maintaining the highest standards of medical accuracy and regulatory compliance
The existing manual workflow was not only slow but also difficult to scale, requiring significant clinical staff hours that could otherwise be spent on patient care. To achieve operational excellence, NursePlexus sought a solution that could deliver consistent documentation quality, reduce the administrative burden on medical professionals, and support rapid onboarding of new healthcare facilities without increasing overhead.
Given the sensitive nature of the industry, the business mandated a "Security-First" architecture. The solution had to be fully HIPAA-compliant, ensuring that patient data remained private and protected throughout the AI inference lifecycle. This required a robust infrastructure capable of encrypted cross-account communication, secure credential management, and an isolated environment for AI processing to prevent any exposure of Protected Health Information (PHI).

Manual Clinical Review Congestions: The reliance on medical professionals to manually analyze complex patient encounter notes created severe turnaround delays. As volume increased, this labor-intensive process became the primary obstacle to scaling the platform’s operations.
High Operational Burden and Staff Burnout: Clinical staff were spending a disproportionate amount of time on routine documentation review rather than patient-facing activities. This led to increased operational costs and limited the ability to onboard new healthcare providers without a massive increase in headcount.

To power the automated clinical review capabilities, CloudZenia deployed Flowbot Station in a separate AWS account focused entirely on AI processing. This architecture ensures a clean separation between the primary application and the AI-driven workloads. The environment utilizes Amazon Bedrock for LLM inference (specifically Anthropic Claude), enabling the platform to interpret clinical notes, detect documentation gaps, and generate structured summaries with high precision.
Integrating AWS Secrets Manager helped to handle the secure storage and rotation of credentials and API tokens. By utilising AWS Lambda for automated token management and IAM roles for least-privilege access, the architecture ultimately eliminates the risk of manual credential exposure. The containerised nature of the deployment—managed via Amazon ECR and Docker—allows NursePlexus to accelerate AI inference workloads actively as provider demand increases.
A core requirement was enabling the main NursePlexus backend to communicate privately with the Flowbot Station AI engine. CloudZenia implemented an AWS VPC Endpoint Service supported by a Network Load Balancer in the AI account. This allows for encrypted, private data exchange across accounts without traversing the public internet which, in turn, ensures the solution remains totally secure and HIPAA-compliant.
Amazon MQ (ActiveMQ) serves as the medium of communication between the platform and the AI engine. CloudZenia configured topic-based STOMP channels to facilitate real-time message exchange. Advanced authorization rules and wildcard permissions were implemented to support a high volume of review flows while maintaining strict access control between systems.
In order to ensure the accuracy of AI-generated insights, the solution adopts Retrieval-Augmented Generation. This technique grounds the Anthropic Claude models in specific patient documentation, significantly reducing the risk of hallucinations. Custom prompt engineering was further applied to standardize the output into clinical formats like SOAP notes, ensuring consistency across all documentation assessments.
Amazon CloudWatch provides end-to-end visibility into the processing pipeline, which in turn helps monitor job completion times as well as resource utilisation. This extensive observability ensures that the system maintains its "zero production failure" record while meeting the audit-ready standards crucial for healthcare technology.
